In November 2019 The MusiCompany performed the musical "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying".
I was asked to both make and operate the background animations & visuals that would add more to the scenery and scenes on stage.
In total i made 7 stills and 7 animations.
The animations, made with both Illustrator and After Effects.
As for style i looked a lot to 60's/70's commercial posters and fonts. The story of the musical also is set in the 60's.
The first thing i designed was a company logo for the fictional company "World Wide Wickets", which was both used in the animations and printed on the work clothes/aprons of the actors.
From the creative director of the musical group i heard i was free to bring anything i wanted on the table, but i had to keep it simple and effective. With that in mind i think i nailed down the final design of the logo pretty fast: A round logo of a wicket on a 60's-fied earth with the company name in letters around the logo.
A color palette for the visuals was also made by me based on the sketches and backgrounds they had designed for the musical, so both illustrations and animations would fit seamlessly with each other.

One of the trickiest animations was the pirate ship. It was one of the few visuals with more detail than normal. Because of this it took a few tries to get the timing and animation down fluently. One time the flag that is behind the ship suddenly floated a few miles behind the ship. Small errors like this were easly fixed by me.
Here you will see a small video with how some of the animations looked on stage!
Both musical and visuals were really well recieved. And i absolutly loved working on it!
